Choosing to outsource part of your team can be a difficult decision. Who you partner with is essential to being successful which is why at Eddye Dreyer Financial Services, it’s important for us to get to know our clients and have our clients get to know us. We sat down with our Vice President of Operations, Melinda Marks, and asked her to share more about her role and responsibilities at Eddye Dreyer.

Melinda is a proud Texas native who hails from Grand Prairie. She is a graduate of Baylor University with a BBA in Accounting. Shortly after, she became a Certified Public Accountant. She has more than 30 years in financial accounting focused in oil and gas management, processing and financial reporting, complemented by outsourcing experience.

How did you get into the oil and gas industry?
My grandfather and father operated service stations, so I grew up hearing about the downstream oil and gas business. After graduating, I worked as an auditor for a large jewelry company and traveled all over the United States. When I tired of traveling, I landed an upstream oil and gas accounting job at Sun Exploration and Production Company. During my tenure there, I worked in Financial Reporting, the Expenditure/Joint Interest accounting departments and Fixed Assets. My experiences emphasized to always evaluate how to improve processes, procedures and controls.

What is your specific role with Eddye Dreyer Financial Services?
Currently, I am the Vice President of Operations for our Dallas, Houston and San Antonio offices. I am involved in marketing, onboarding new clients, maintaining solid client relationships and managing daily accounting activities. We are client service oriented and our goal is to provide timely, accurate financial data to our clients so they can make solid business decisions.

What is the most satisfying aspect of providing outsourcing services to oil and gas customers?
In accounting, you have internal and external customers. Daily, priorities are set and reset multiple times. The most satisfaction is gained from helping oil and gas business leaders understand the story told by their numbers. Stories can range from successful drilling operations to unstable, erratic pricing environments.

I am passionate about the Oil & Gas Industry and the outstanding customer services we provide at Eddye Dreyer!

Where do you see this industry in five years?
The oil and gas industry is going through another downturn, another tough time. It has endured many such downturns and always comes out on the other side stronger, having learned lessons from the past. New and creative ideas will allow the industry to be prepared for the unexpected. In five years, I believe the oil and gas industry will be regaining strength and financial stability through the use of new technologies and improved processes. Outsourcing services can and will play a vital role in the resurgence of the energy industry.
